Anarkalis Haul ~ Ethnic Fashion
June 04, 20150 Comments
If you are following up on this blog for a while now, you will know that recently it was buzzing with the news of a big fat wedding. This haul was made 2 months ago (close to the wedding).

The main idea behind the haul was splurging on some wearable, not-so-heavy-yet-gorgeous anarkalis. You know how much drama goes behind an Indian wedding so you can imagine what fun it was shopping for all of these! :D

The awesome Bling Sparkle Trio *ehem* went shopping and this is what we picked from our haul! All of them look prettier in reality!

My Fav:
I think this was the classiest and most chic Anarkali of the lot! I loved the colour and the minimal detailing. I am not too found of collar necks but this one's simply perfection!
It has detailing in the back side too. I love love love it!!

This one didn't photograph well. It's not that bad in reality. It's kinda nice to wear on a simple occasion! The latkan detailing is fab!

This is the one shown in the first pic. It's very different from others. The design is kinda unique! Also, there's no lays in the borders so this one's considerably lighter than others. Comfy too.

This one's another beauty! Don't know why but the colour pink always catches my eye. I always end up buying a pink! :D It has detailing on the sleeves too and the kalis are considerably more in this suit.
All of them were bought from an outlet in Majestic, Bangalore.
What's your favourite? Do let us know in the comments!

Love,

Style guide: What to Wear to your Mehendi
April 24, 20150 Comments
Mehendi is an important pre wedding ritual in indian weddings where the bride is put intricate heena patterns on her hands and feet  . Mehendi ceremony for the bride can be a tiresome and long process  but it is also the most fun ceremony where the close family and friends of the bride gets together as they sing, dance and celebrate.

Comfort should be the first thing you should look for in your mehendi outfit  as you will have to sit for 5-6 hours in a fixed position as the mehendi wali gets the designs done.. also since the mehendi will be applied over your elbow length it is better to go for sleeves less or short sleeved outfits. Most mehendis these days are combines with sangeet ceremony so if there is dancing involved then go for flowy flared out silhouettes.

Yellow and green are considered the best colours for a Mehendi outfit but since Mehendi is a fun and a colourful event you can get experimental and choose any colour you love .  I suggest brides to avoid  Black and whites and go for a bright contrasting mix of 2 or 3 colours in their outfit .

Here are some outfit ideas to inspire you

1. Fun Colourful Lehenga : A colourful but light lehenga with latkans is the best mehendi outfit . make sure the choli is sleeveless or short sleeved. Lehenga means you can get mehendi on your legs easily done just by lifting it a little and it will flare out nicely if you have a little dancing involved later on in the day. You could choose from designer creations like nishka Lulla or just get fabric in net or Georgette and get a tailor to stitch up a lehenga for you .

2. Saree: Saree isnt the most comfortable pick for your mehendi but this is the most cost effective option as you can just get a plain saree ombre dyed in 2 or three colours and wear with a sequined or brocade blouse. If you have worn a saree before and are comfortable in it go for it. But make sure you arent wearing a saree for your wedding or reception this way you will have variety in your looks

3. Plazzos with long kurta : This pakistani silhouette is very popular these days and you could get variety in your bridal looks by adding plazzos for mehendi. opt for plazzos in raw silk but if your mehendi is a small event you can go for plazzos and kurta in multicoloured crepe .

4..Ethnic gown or floor lenth anarkali:   Ethnic gowns are very popular these days as they are very easy to handle . You can even skip the dupatta with this and dancing the night away also looks fabulous in a flared floor length kurta. But go for this option only if you arent wearing a gown on your reception .

5.. Short lehenga choli : Wearing Lehenga is a good option but it has a lot of scope in spoiling your mehendi on feet so better to get a knee length lehenga stiched with a short sleeved choli. This option is a risky affair and is for bold experimental brides only.

6.kurti with short pants : Have a colourful anarkali kurti ? just pair it knee length pants and you are good to go.

7. Peplum cholis : Peplum in ethnic is fast becoming popular and if you have waist for it go for it. for more on peplums check here

8. Dhoti Pants : Dhoti pants are super in these days and they also make for fun mehendi wear . wear a pair of silk dhoti pants with a bright tulip cut kurti and viola chic mehendi look

9.  Lehenga or gown with a knee high slit :  If you are up for it then a sexy gown or lehenga with a slit is the best option for your mehendi. It adds the required flare yet gives you ease for getting mehendi done on feet without compromising on style factor. If you dont want flare you can just have a straight cut lehenga or gown. Also if the slit seems too daring for you go for a pair of brocade or a rich fabric cropped pants .

 10. Hi low hemline anarkali top: I love asymmetrical hemline and this is my personal favorite option. Hunt for a good flared out anarkali and wear it minus the chudidaar bottoms.

.
11. Draped saree gowns: Draped sarees are very comfortable and that is exactly what you need for a mehendi ceremony.
12. Dhoti saree: Sonam popularised this kind of a draped dhoti saree with cape when she turned up in one at cannes last year and you could try the same iZifferent preferable more brighter colour

13. crop tops : Crop tops in ethnic are super in everyone from payal singhal to ridhi mehra are embracing them . Pair crop tops with plain lehengas, plazzos, short skirt or sharara pants . The best thing about crop tops is you can reuse them later on .

14.Try off beat motifs: If bright clours arent your thing then add fun to your mehendi outfit via quirky motifs or prints like fans, dragon flies, and parrots .

15. Embrace huge floral prints : what betetr way to do bright ethnics than florals? go step head and do them huge . Surendri by yoges choudari and many other designers are churning some very peppy huge floral prints perfect for mehendi.

Mehendi Style Tips:
*Avoid hand or feet jewellery as it may get your mehendi smudged.
*If you want to add a DIY outfiit touch to your wedding ,Mehendi is your best bet, bring out your creative hats and design away. (go here for inspiration)
*For Mehendi  people go with fresh flowers in decor and jewellery so keeping your make up light and natural is a good idea
* When planning your hairstyle for mehendi keep in mind that you will have to sit for hours with your heena laced hands . Go for a bun or braid . Make sure you pin up your hair in the front
* Skip your precious or imitation jewellery for mehendi and opt for trendy floral , lace or gota jewellery. this will help your mehendi outfit stand out and it will not look repetitive when you see all photos together in your album.
*floral wreathes are super in for mehendi these days you could try it.

Fashion Fix: Jackets with Indian wear
February 12, 20150 Comments
j4
When I was writing the sari on cape post I realized the jacket was being used in indian wear a lot these days. Iam a big fan of the Jacket or Koti anarkalis, because when everyone these days dresses in anarkalis the koti helps me stand out. But it is not just anarkalis which are being worn with jackets. Patiala suits, kutis, sarees, lehengas and shararas all are being given a contemporary twist with a jacket.
Investing in  Nehru Jackets , boleros and blazers is good because it helps in recycling old ethnic wear via the mix and match way

Anarkalis with Jacket:j1
Adding a short jacket to your simple anarkali is great way to to style it differently especially in winters. It is better to skip the dupatta when wearing a jacket over anarkali also sticking to minimal jewellery is the key to nailing this look.
j2
Saris with Jacket:
Sonam Kapoor started this off when she wore a long jacket with saree at cannes. Adding an embroidered jacket to a simple saree is a  great way to style for winter weddings. But if your saree is embellished go the sheer cape way (look here for more insight on Saree capes). This fashion fusion has great potential provided done the right way. Be open to experimenting and  try both long coats and short jackets or waist coats. A more dressed down version of this trend can be worn to traditional office dos.
Salwars and kurtas with jackets:j3
When it comes to kurtis waistcoats are an effortless way to add zing to the whole look. Simple plain kurtis couls be jazzed up with embellished or embroidered waistcoats, while printed kutis can be worn in multiple ways by adding plain waistcoats of different colours.
Alia bhat wore this chic patiala suit for promotion of her movie humpty sharma ki dulhania. This whole patiala with waist coat coat gives a dressed up vibe and helps add more colour to the look so these can be easily worn to Mehendi functions or traditional fun parties. A mirror work vest is a must have if ethnic wear is your thing.

which way would you love to reinvent your ethnic wear with a jacket?

Trend Talk: Sari with Cape
December 04, 20140 Comments

tc

The versatile sari is being spiced up in many ways to make it stand out out. While there are many edgy ways to style the six yards, one which has caught my attention is wearing cape over it.

Sonam Kapoor (who else?) started it off at Cannes Red carpet with her Anamika  Khanna saree gown which was finished of with a sheer cape over it.

Adding a cape is a great way to give the traditional saree a modern twist and make your look stand out.

Cannes 2014 sighting: Sonam Kapoor WOWS in fusion fashion - Rediff.com Movies

Recently at Bulgari Launch event sonam kapoor wore another anamika khanna saree with a cape. I totally loved this look head to toe (and blogged it on my blog, read detailed post here ) and decided to do more research on this trend and voila this post was born Open-mouthed smile.  It isnt only Anamika Khanna who has been playing with this trend . Masaba gupta also projected a version of the printed cape on a saree in her recent collection. This months Harpers Bazaar Bride features kareen kapoor khan in cape by gaurav gupta over a black saree.

cape

The cape is just not limited bollywood, South indian actress Samantha also wore a beaded cape over a royal blue saree at an event. I loved how simple yet striking this look is all thanks to the cape.

The cape can look very both chic and royal if done rightly. Sonam Kapoor wore this elle sabb shrug kind of cape over a pink saree and looked Ethereal in it. I also love this gorgeous jeweled Cape on saree, by Monisha jaising at Delhi Couture Week . blingy and jewelled capes like this over a saree could easily make you stand out as a guest in a wedding reception.

Edgy Fashion Forward Outfit ideas to wear at the next wedding you attend
September 16, 20140 Comments

What will you wear to the next indian wedding you will attend? Well most common answer is keep it ethnic with lehenga, sari , Anarkali or salwar simple. Simple yes, but boring too

Lehengas are very heavy and difficult to manage and the anarkalis well the majority women out there will be seen sporting one . Ofcourse it isnt a bad idea to be a part of the majority but what if the wedding is of your sister/ brother or a very close family member or friend? You definitely want to make an impact and stand out, here are some very edgy fun outfit options to try

wo6

Anarkali Lehenga : The anarkali lehengas are similar to flowy anarkalis but come with a lehenga underneath to add more layers. This has been in trend for quite sometime now and I infact wore one of this on my sisters marriage.  Similar to a Jacket lehenga the lehenga anarkalis may have slits to show contrasting colour of lehenga underneath so I suggest you choose colours wisely or just  choose in net without slit for a sheer midriff . These are very easy to find , enter shops like Meena Bazaar and you are done.

wo3

Saree Gowns: If managing saree is a hard thing for you saree gowns come to your rescue. Saree gown is an indo western option where the pleats of a saree are stitched in a gown . Very Fashion Forward and hassle free too. Sonam Kapoor wears these gown sarees well and when she wore it to cannes this year I turned a fan.

wo

Crop top Lehenga: I have already blogged about my crush on Ridhi Mehra creations and her crop tops are a top favorite. Pair a crop top  similar to Ridhis creation with a simple lehenga for effortless chic look. This is very inexpensive way to make a stylish ethnic appearance since the lehenga can be made out of plain net and use some plain or printed cloth to get yourself a crop top stitched. On the flip side you need a flat belly to carry this off, if you have one go show off!

wo2

Indo-western Fusion gown with slit: Remember what deepika wore to Comedy nights with kapil for ramleela promotions  (see Here)? Well you could wear something similar to that and stand out at a wedding.  A gown similar to an anarkali with an embellished but and a high slit paired with tights or chudidaar. Fuss free look as you can skip the dupatta here!

.wo4

Plazzos or Sharara Pants: Pair a pair of plazzos with a kurta and you are good to go. This is more of a pakistani silhouette but is soon catching up in india too. Colour block your kurta and plazzos, a shorter kurta or an extra long kurta coupled with rich fabrics like silk and jamawar will make the outfit stand out.

wo7

Masaba/ Digital prints saree : If you are a saree person then try masaba kind quirky prints. The prints are fresh and different making you stand out. Since these sarees arent embellished you can pair them with statement jewelry and embellished clutches. Masaba sarees are easy to find online and they are loads of copies doing round sin local markets too. Go get one and Stand Out.

Which outfit ideas excites you?

still next time , keep it stylish!

Customer Service: Though ive not interacted with jomso customer care personally I liked their service. My phone was not reachable when the courier guy was here to deliver so the People jomso sent me a mail with the courier Guys number to contact him.
Packing: I received my dress nicely packed and safe, but I wish the packaging was a bit more sturdy, they could boxes maybe?
