Tassel Hangings: Addicted To The Latkan Accessory ? #TraditionalTrends
August 09, 20150 Comments

Addicted to latkan trend, 2015 trends

Tassels or Latkans have a way back in history from being a staple part of outfits for Mughals to being embellished in ramp walk collections by Indian fashion designers in almost all of their ethnic outfits!

If a dress is simple a hanging tassel or a latkan with embellishments or a studded latkan can add the required needed grandeur to that dress !

Latkans embelished in blouses

Latkans have now become  major part of Indian outfits. Be it heavy lehengas, cholis, blouses or dupattas – Everything is now adorned with latkans ! Ever since the Anarkali trend overtook the Indian fashion Industry by a storm , latkans were used to decorate these dresses in every possible way !

Accessories to accesorize lehengas and skirts   Latkan trend

Latkans come in different shapes, colors, materials and sizes ! Garments in India are embellished with a variety of latkans. Latkans ranging from INR 5000 per piece to lakans at INR 50 per piece ,people have a thousand choices now!  Not to forget latkans coming in Judas or bangles !

Indians are addicted to tassels! Latkans are made of sequins and fringes including metal, moti, wool, feathers, beads, kundans , crystal, pearl, velvet , studded and beaded !

Lovely tassels or latkans

Girls at my place shop for latkans at exclusive stores and get them stitched to their kurtis, blouses and anarkalis. It’s a trend caught up with all the leading fashion designers in India. Gone are the days where latkans where a part of home décor. My favorite ethnic wear brand ‘rain And Rainbow’ has introduced the concept of latkans in almost all of their kurtis and anarkalis.

Latkans in bangalore

Hanging tassels/ latkans Fashion Trend has been a rage ! Bollywood fashionistas flaunting their dresses with latkans in them have caused the girls to follow up their steps. Women all over India continue to embellish their outfits with Beads and stones hanging from the ends of the tassel of dupatta or the bodice which do wonders to adorn the bare gaps in the back of an anarkali or a blouse. readymade garments are now coming up with unique and quirky patterns in latkans that will be adorned on the garments.

Latkans in ethnic wear

The tassel at the back of dress or attached to a sleeve or a lehenga  prettifies the whole outfit! The latkan tough adds the grandeur touch to an outfit altogether ! Ensembles that are adored with this amazing piece of attraction are mostly found on the four ends of the dupattas, the end of the back string of a blouse, at the back attached to the tie ups in an anarkali or salwar kameez, at the front attached to the tie ups in designer suits,in long skirts,  in a belt at the bottom of a lehenga or the two ends of a saree pallu.  But with the innovation, ‘latkan’ or a tassel can be in any shape or size.

Entrepreneurs have even started selling these colorful accessories online.  the Latkan trend is no longer limited to the younger generation. Many women in their graceful 40s and early 50s are also accessorizing their blouses with these beautiful tassels.

Trend alert : tassels

I myself have a dozen plus outfits with grand latkans embellished in them and  have shopped like crazy for latkans during my elder sister’s marriage. I love the whole idea of customizing a dress with the help of accessories and one best favorite accessory to add glamour to an ensemble is none other than hanging tassel !

So have you shopped for latkans or tassels or are they part of your favorite ethnic ensembles? Temme !

Until next time

Accessory Haul from Ebay #ShoppingDiaries

Shopping haul from ebay india

The best thing about online shopping is that they have sales running on them every now and then! I was looking for a few jewelled hairbands which I had on my wish list since long and I went window shopping on ebay as it’s the only website where we get every damn thing , yes , I mean it ! Every single thing which you might not get on Flipkart or amazon you’ll find it on ebay ! Ebay is a site where you’ll find things you simply can’t resist ! The best thing about it are the sweet sellers who send cute message cards along with the product which make me happy ^_^ Hence when ebay had a sale going on I hogged the moment and hauled up a few things..

I bought a necklace set which I intended to gift to one of my cousin. While I was browsing I stumbled upon an irresistible pair of ear cuffs in gold and a cheaper one in silver. I also bought a powder blush from Anne Andrea in peach which I am yet to try!

These gold plated ear cuffs are pretty to look at and lightweight when you wear them and cost me around 500 bucks . The only con about them is that they tend to hurt your ears after a period of 1 hour . My ears turned red and it was quite painful :/ I think the fault is with the designing. I recommend you to avoid buying these, its painful!

The same goes for the silver ones, they were as painful as the gold ones :(

The hairbands where love at first sight ! The gold studded floral hairband is now my favorite ! I have worn it more than 25 times ! *Happy face* The silver is yet to be worn. the material of the hairband is good but the satin at the ends tend to come out , I had to stick them back with fevikwik. Other than that they are a nice buy at a reasonable price.

The necklace came in a delicate package and I am glad there was no damage done to it. It’s a sweet light silver color studded necklace with earrings.

I loved the cards each seller sent with their respective products. they had a sweet message for me along with their website address. So that was my small haul from ebay. Have you shopped for jewellery from ebay? How was your experience?

Accessory Love: Jhoomar and Tips To Flaunt It
August 04, 20140 Comments
jh2
Jhoomar is a very traditional fan shaped accessory worn on the head in the right or left side along with a mang tikka. It is an essential part of bridal adornment worn by the bride on her wedding day but brides these days tend to skip it trying to keep it minimal I guess. As a bridal accessory jhoomar looks very elegant and royal giving a very Mughal era kind of feel.
If you are following me on twitter you would know I attended a wedding recently. This wedding like most other Indian big fat weddings was high on colour, bling and yummy food. What caught my attention most at this wedding was the modern approach to ethnic fashion. There were girls twirling away in fish cut lehengas, Girls wearing Black And White which used to be a complete NO at indian weddings and girls beautifully incorporating traditional jewelry trends like Jhoomar and hath phool without looking over the top.
The Royal Jhoomar has now been revamped  to make it suitable to be worn both brides and wedding guests. I am in love with this piece of accessory and iam looking forward to own atleast one jhoomar soon. Since the Jhoomar trend is not very common one finding a perfect piece is a task really and I couldn’t find any good ones on ebay, but my search is on and I will be checking out jewellery stores soon.
Jhoomar is a very versatile piece of jewellery and it can be worn in a number of ways. You can experiment with a jhoomar and wear it like an oversized tikka, put it in your hair bun or plait like a hair accessory or wear in on the left side of head like a jhoomar itself.
jh
A Bride can wear a Jhoomar along with her other bridal ornaments and still look elegant, but if you arent a bride you should take some care as a jhoomar can crowd your entire look and come across as an attempt to upstage the bride.  Here are some tips to wear a jhoomar.
  • Try not to pair a Jhoomar with a mang tikka because you are not the bride. Let jhoomar be your only head accessory
  • When wearing a Jhoomar go easy on other accessories. Opt for a light earring and preferable no neck piece .
  • Jhoomar will work better if your ethnic outfits have a vintage old world charm to it.
  • Both side parted hair and middle parted hair work well with a jhoomar but refrain from adding volume to hair as the jhoomar may flatten it ruining your look.
.Iam loving this jewelry trend but obviously I cant wear it everywhere. I am definitely going to buy one but where is the right place to flaunt it?
  • Wear Jhoomar to a gurudwara wedding or nikkah where you will be wearing dupatta on your head. It will give a nice royal look when your Jhoomar peeks out of the dupatta.
  • Flaunt it off on Eid or diwali parties
  • Wear it to the Wedding reception of near and dear ones.
  • When your relatives or sisters or brothers are getting married a jhoomar for sangeet or mehendi will give variety to your entire wedding look.
What are your thoughts on this timeless piece of jewelry? Would you wear it ?

Haul: Pretty hair accessories!
June 08, 20140 Comments
You know that feeling when you are in a bad mood and a simple haul of pretty things magically brightens your mood and releases your stress? Well, a few days back something like this happened with me. One time I was furious and agitated and the other time, my anger had melted and before we know, I was chirpily roaming around the whole house trying out all these pretty clips and hairbands. When someone told money can't buy happiness, they just didn't know where to look for it! *winks*

We sisters hauled these pretty hair accessories from a nearby mall and couldn't stop ourselves from sharing the news with you all! :) Each piece of accessory is to die for. The little sparkling studs on them add that extra oomph factor. We love!

Here's a visual treat for you!:

It's all about the bling in the right quantities,
